Vetiver essential oil is extracted from the roots of a grass known as Vetiveria zizanoides which belongs to the same botanical family as lemongrass, citronella and palmarosa. This plant has been appreciated for its diverse range of useful applications since records began, and in some countries such as India its role as a perfume may even precede that of the ubiquitous rose. Although its aroma is not to everyone’s taste, vetiver essential oil has been growing in popularity since aromatherapy re-emerged in the 1980′s. Read more…

Aging happens to all of us, of course. There’s no way to put the brakes on it, no matter what the latest “nutraceuticals” may claim.

Getting sufficient sleep is vital for your overall health, because during this important ‘down-time’ you have the opportunity to rest and recuperate in preparation for the following day. I read once that Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love who arose from the foaming depths of the sea, owed her beautiful flawless skin and glossy hair to the natural elements she had just emerged from. Fanciful as it may sound, there is much truth in this legend because science has now proven that the unique combination of chelated minerals, vitamins, enzymes and amino acids found in seaweed and algae really can beautify the skin and hair. Here in the U.K. we are caught in the grip of a heat wave, and many sun-starved Brits are stampeding to the beaches and parks to soak up as much of the sunshine as they can. And who can blame them given the notorious unpredictability of the short English summers! The truth is that enjoying the sunshine is one of the best things about summer, wherever you live in the world.
But it is vitally important that you protect your skin at all times from overexposure to the sun or you risk of drying-out your skin, developing wrinkles or much worse if you seriously overdo things. Excessive exposure of the skin to sunlight can seriously damage it and is the leading cause of skin cancer all around the world. Read more…
